Practicing Bikram since 2002, Jo began to practice power yoga in 2004. After her first Baptiste Power Vinyasa class, she knew she had found something life changing. That began her journey of finding and standing in her own power, and ultimately to teaching others that they can do the same! Yoga ERYT 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certified, she’s been teaching since 2006. Her understanding of Hot Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga in both on how to teach them and how to make adjustments has depth that only the precious currency of time can buy. Jo's ability to connect with her students and understand their suffering, and their triumphs (emotional, physical, and spiritual) is as unique as she is. Jo always stands in her truth and encourages those who take her classes to do the same. She is a bright, shining light, and has been described as authentic, wise, funny, encouraging, and most of all loving. Having completed teacher trainings with Baron Baptiste, and an extensive hands-on assisting program with Lisa Black (TAP), Jo is also inspired by Gregor Singleton, Patrick Grey, Bernie Clark, Shiva Rea, and Bryan Kest. She brings a richness and loving nurturing presence to any yoga environment and is excited to share her love of yoga with all of you!

Emily Browder

Emily’s yoga practice started 16 years ago in her living room with a Rodney Yee video. Immediately, she loved the way her body felt after doing yoga, but it was only after she started practicing at SHAKTI 3 yrs. ago that her passion really began to blossom. For her, Baptiste yoga at SHAKTI was the perfect balance of the physical practice (cardio, strengthening and stretching) and the spiritual practice. The more yoga she did, the more she wanted to learn, which lead her to teacher training.

 

In the Fall of 2013, Emily completed SHAKTI’s 200 Hr. Teacher Training program, and then continued on with SHAKTI’s Teacher Mentorship Program under Lisa Black, Zak Endicott and Nicole Tsong. She has learned from many teachers over the years, including Jason Crandell, Rolf Gates, & Tiffany Cruikshank. She considers herself a student of yoga, first and foremost, and loves to gain insight from visiting teachers.
In Emily’s class you will have the opportunity to turn off the external stimuli so that you can really listen to your body’s needs and observe your thought patterns. You can expect to find a balance of rigorous poses, as well as an opportunity to slow down and breathe. And since she is enthusiastic about arm balances and inversions, you will probably get the opportunity to play a bit too.

 

She is inspired by her teachers and her students, who show dedication and perseverance every time they show up on their mat, completely open to possibilities.

 

Mistilyn Miller

Mistilyn loves movement! She has been athletic her whole life; gymnastics, water sports, running, and dance always gave her a sense of balance.
 

Unfortunately her ankle could not keep up with her zest for impact sports. An unsuccessful surgery and extensive physical therapy did not seem to be the answer to her immobility. Searching for some way to regain her need for physical expression, she limped into a yoga studio for the first time. After that class, Mistilyn knew yoga was the answer to reclaiming her body. Keeping up with her commitment (even sometimes going twice a day) she found the way for her mind, body, and spirit to move freely!

 

Having spent over 25 years coaching in the gymnastics community, Mistilyn brings a unique perspective to her classes. Her passion for movement with body alignment, shaping, and a love for teaching continues through yoga.

Craig Baldwin

Craig first started practicing yoga over 35 years ago. With a physical job working in construction and playing different team sports for recreation, he never made the time to develop a consistent yoga practice. About 14 years ago after having to stop playing the sports he loves mainly due to lingering injuries he came back home to yoga. At some point while practicing 2-3 times a week in different studios for a decade or so, Craig’s practice felt stagnant. To deepen his understanding of the history and philosophy of Yoga, he took teacher training at Be Luminous Yoga. While his intention of taking the training was not to teach, somewhere along the way he became inspired to teach. Teaching Yoga is another evolution in his spiritual growth.

 

Craig brings his life experience, humor, playfulness, LOVE of Yoga and music to each class! When Craig is not in a yoga studio he is doing some sort of construction project, walking his dog, listening to and playing blues, jazz, and kirtan music, enjoying the salt air of Puget Sound on Camano Island, and spending time with friends and family. He especially enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife of 23 years, Nan. Craig looks forward to seeing you on the mat!

Ashish Arora

Ashish grew up in Delhi, India where he briefly practiced yoga in Elementary school and learned Sanskrit in Middle and High school. He did not practice yoga again till he went to a yoga class in January 2015 in his office gym at Nintendo. That's when he realized the possibilities yoga opened up for him, both physically and mentally. The same year he completed his 200-hour Teacher Training at Shakti Vinyasa Yoga, following it up with a 4 month mentoring program. He has also completed Level 1 training with Baron Baptiste and weekend intensives with Anna Forrest (Forrest Yoga) and Kino Macgregor (Ashtanga). After spending 16 years of working as an engineer in the Computer and video game industry, he is currently taking a sabbatical and spending his time practicing/teaching yoga and to travel. He loves to practice different styles of yoga, taking about 12 classes/week across Seattle. In the last year, he has practiced yoga in a few places across the world - Delhi, Bali, Rome, Edinburgh, New York, LA, Boston, Miami, DC and more.
 
 
He likes to practice with a smile and tries to bring his fun personality to his teaching. At the same time, you should come in expecting to push your edge. He would like you to be open to the possibilities which open up on and off your mat when you push that edge. A strong example from his personal life being how yoga helped him get over his fear of water by getting him in control of his breath, which then let him explore scuba diving.

 

He strongly believes that happiness cannot be achieved by just tying it to big goals, but it comes from finding something in the current moment to be happy about and to smile about it. Those moments then go on to make your entire life.

Nicole Tsong

Nicole remembers the first time a friend convinced her to attend a yoga class and then watched, speechless, as her friend flew into crow. She was in. She first came to SHAKTI in 2005, drawn in by the heat, the powerful flow and the hands-on teaching style of Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Yoga calmed her mind and opened her body. A weekend teacher training with SHAKTI owners Lisa Black and Peter Avolio sparked an interest in teaching, and in 2009, she attended Baron Baptiste's Teacher Training Bootcamp Level 1. She emerged transformed and inspired by the possibilities for teaching and life. She also is a graduate of SHAKTI's Teacher Mentorship Program, and in 2010, completed Baptiste Level 2 teacher training, which took her teaching to another level of power and transformation. She also has trained with master teacher Shiva Rea and practiced with Rusty Wells, Bryan Kest and Ana Forrest. A Certified Baptiste Instructor, Nicole believes a teacher's role is to empower students in their practice and their lives, provide a safe, loving space to grow physically and mentally and to build community. She brings power, authenticity, levity and love to her classes, and she aspires to help her students find presence, joy and freedom through the flow.

Evi Watson

Evi Watson was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She has been practicing yoga since 2000. Evi began her yoga journey with Ashtanga yoga as a way to improve her core strength and flexibility for rock climbing. She moved to Seattle in 2004 and fell in love with Power Vinyasa. She is truly inspired by what yoga has done for her both physically and mentally, allowing her to see life with an open mind, combined with strength and confidence.

Evi received her RYT-200 Yoga Alliance certification in 2009 and has been teaching ever since. She has completed level 1 & level 2 teacher trainings with Baron Baptiste. She is also a graduate of Shakti's Teacher Assisting Program (TAP), Advanced Teacher Assisting Program and Teacher Mentorship Program (TMP). She has attended teacher-training workshops with Shiva Rea and Anna Forrest and continues her path as a student first, while sharing her passion for yoga with her students. She is excited to be part of the Shakti community as it offers a loving and supportive environment, while providing essential tools for continuous growth as a student and teacher.

Evi’s teaching philosophy is to practice yoga with an open mind and a light spirit with no limitations or judgments. Her classes are challenging yet accessible to everyone with an emphasis on alignment and breath in a fun and relaxing environment.

A slower paced, modified Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga sequence. The instructors offer the modified variations for all of the postures throughout the practice, and students are invited to work at their own levels. This class is the perfect next step for people who have completed the Intro series or for practitioners new to Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Each class may include a short “posture clinic” with detailed information about a focus asana.
