Susan wandered into a yoga class while in college in the late 1980’s and still remembers the instructor's soothing and loving voice guiding students to relax in savasana. She was moved deeply in that first class so many years ago. Throughout the years since then, Susan tried several different styles of yoga. In 2006, she found her home and passion at Shakti and in Baptiste Yoga. This powerful, physical, sweaty practice grounded her, empowered her and gave her freedom on the mat and in her life. In 2015, after years of regular practice at Shakti, Susan took the leap and attended Level One training with Baron Baptiste. Heart cracked open and body and mind expanded, she went on to complete the Teacher Assisting Program (TAP) with Lisa Black, a 200 Hour RYT training at Be Luminous Yoga, and Baptiste Level Two training. In 2017, Susan was mentored by Jo Parsons and Nicole Tsong in the Shakti Teacher Mentorship Program (TMP).

 

 

It is both a joy and an honor for Susan to be teaching at the studio where she has spent so many hours on her mat as a student. She has found yoga to be truly transformational as it has allowed her to live more authentically, with greater purpose and with connection to not only herself but to her community and to the world. Susan’s classes balance strength with softness, allowing students to connect to breath, body and the present moment. Yoga embodies more than asana, the physical poses, and in Susan’s classes you will connect with your higher self and awaken to the peace, power and possibility that already exist within you.



Susan Hawkins instructs the following:
  • Level 1 Baptiste Vinyasa Gentle Flow
  • Level 1 Baptiste Vinyasa Gentle Flow

  • Level 2 Baptiste Power Vinyasa
  • Level 2: Basic Level where modifications for the postures offered. These classes flow through the complete, traditional Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga sequence of 53 postures and 11 series. Geared towards students who have some experience in Power Vinyasa yoga and is rewarding for experienced students as well.

  • Level 1.5 Baptiste Power Vinyasa
  • A slower paced, modified Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga sequence. The instructors offer the modified variations for all of the postures throughout the practice, and students are invited to work at their own levels. This class is the perfect next step for people who have completed the Intro series or for practitioners new to Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Each class may include a short “posture clinic” with detailed information about a focus asana.

  • All Levels Baptiste Power Vinyasa
  • These strong, steady-paced classes flow through the complete, traditional Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga sequence. The instructors offer modifications and variations throughout the class so that students of all levels can experience a deep and meaningful practice.

  • Tween Yoga Series: Yoga for Middle Schoolers
  • $75
     
    Join Susan for this new, 6 class yoga series specially designed for tweens! Yoga helps tweens balance the body and mind, increases strength and flexibility, and gain new tools for dealing with stress and social pressures. Middle schoolers (grades 6-8) will practice yoga in a fun and supportive setting, gaining strength and building self-esteem. Space is very limited to ensure individual support and attention.
     
    Susan is a certified Yoga for Teens and Yoga for Kids instructor, a mom of tween/teen girls, and a former middle school teacher. She can't wait to share her love of yoga tween practitioners at Shakti!
